PROJECT VALUE – Estimated at $68 Million
The Aspect/KDA team have successfully completed the initial concept design and costing stages for the expansion of the Sunshine Coast Stadium.
The upgrades to the Kawana facility would increase fixed seating capacity from 1,046 to 11,618 seats.
The initial expansion will boost the overall venue capacity from 12,000 to 16,618 in stage one, with a new eastern grandstand (8,085 seats) and an expanded western grandstand (increased to 3,533 seats).
Council has committed $17 million towards the project with more funding needed from either state or federal governments. Works wills start in October 2021.
Mayor Mark Jamieson said the expansion will allow the region to better cater for national sporting teams and events being hosted here.
"Ultimately we'd like to have a fully blown stadium here and subject to things like our potential bid for the 2032 Olympics, should that be successful, sort of puts a deadline in place for that to be completed."
